ABSTRACT

CGA-215944 (proposed common name: pymetrozine) represents a novel class of chemistry and a new mode of action. It is currently being developed worldwide by Ciba-Geigy Corporation for control of sucking insects in cotton, vegetables, deciduous fruits and nuts, and other crops. Control of cotton aphids is achieved at rates of 50-100 g ai/Ha and sweetpotato whiteflies at 200-300 g ai/Ha. Due to its unique mode of action, there is no cross resistance with conventional insecticides. CGA-215944 has excellent selectivity on beneficials and will be especially useful in Integrated Pest Management programs. It also has very favorable toxicological and environmental properties.
