Control of Early Season Thrips on Cotton with Gaucho (NTN 33893) Seed Treatments

Gary L. Lentz and Nancy B. Austin

ABSTRACT

Selected rates of Gaucho® 480FS (imidacloprid = BAY NTN 33893) cotton seed treatments ranging from 0 to 8 fl oz/cwt were compared to an Orthene® (acephate) seed treatment (8 oz/cwt) and in-furrow treatments of Temik® and Temik + Orthene seed treatment for their effectiveness against thrips on seedling cotton. Gaucho seed treatments at 6 and 8 oz rates significantly reduced thrips damage compared to the Orthene seed treatment. Control of immature thrips was improved with increasing rates of Gaucho. Although early flower production was significantly affected by treatment, no consistent trend was evident. Yield was not significantly affected by any treatment included in the experiment.
