Cover Crop Establishment and Maintenance in Oklahoma

Danny Davis

ABSTRACT

I feel the most important part of using cover crops in cotton production is convincing yourself you really want to do it and committing to a different type of production system. It is not just the physical act of planting and raising a cover crop, but coming to a conclusion in your own mind that it is good for you and your operation as a whole. Questions for consideration prior to committing to using cover crops in your operation include: 1) Is the extra work worth the benefit? 2) What are the potential risks? 3) How is this system going to change the way you have always produced cotton?
