Stemflow Gauges for Studies of Water Relations on Cotton in the Field

C.H.M. van Bavel and M.G. van Bavel

ABSTRACT

The development and current status of the constant heating rate method for measuring the sap flow rate in plant stems or trunks is summarized. Results of verification with cotton plants and of field studies with cotton are reviewed. A number of possible applications of the technique to studies of the water relations of cotton are discussed.
