ABSTRACT

This paper describes the technical evolution of rbWHIMS, a rule-based expert cotton-pest management expert system designed to be integrated with the GOSSYM/COMAX cotton management system. In 1992, rbWHIMS was completely redesigned and rewritten. The original version was written in ART-IM, an expert system language. The present system is implemented in C++, an object-oriented variant of the C programming language. The present system also has a completely re-designed data-model that much more closely resembles the cotton/pest ecosystem. Finally, the user interface was redesigned and rewritten in the Windows 3. 1. The resulting system is much improved in terms of stability, maintainability, flexibility and usability.
