ABSTRACT

PIRATE (AC 303,630), insecticide-miticide, the lead candidate in a new class of compounds known as the pyrroles, was evaluated across the mid-south cotton belt to determine insecticidal and miticidal activity during 1992. PIRATE applied at 0.06 - 0.4 lb AI/A provided commercially acceptable control of Heliothis virescens, Helicoverpa zea, Spodoptera exiqua, Tetranychus spp., Franklinella fusca, and Sericothrips variables. Tankmix combinations of PIRATE at 0.25 - 0.3 lb Al/A plus low rates of Baythroid and Scout X-tra offered budworm/bollworm control equal to that achieved by PIRATE at 0.4 lb AI/A. PIRATE provided suppression of boll weevil when applied on a typical budworm/bollworm schedule. Results indicate that PIRATE is effective against a number of economically important insect and mite pests of cotton.
