Future Quality Measurements

C.K. Bragg and C.L. Simpson

ABSTRACT

Several new and improved measurements can be implemented into HVI systems in the near future if cotton producers and textile users are interested in having these measurements. These measurements include elongation (using load-extension curves), separate measurements of fineness and maturity (using the double compression airflow method or near infra-red reflectance), short fiber content (using numerical analysis of fibrogram, regression analysis, or estimates based on current HVI measurement relationships), improved color measurements (using spectrophotometric technology), and improved trash measurements (using image analyzers).
