ABSTRACT
Since the promulgation of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act (1972) efforts have been underway to identify, predict and control non-point pollution sources (NPS). Agricultural activity has been observed to be a major source of non-point pollution. Methods to control NPSs have been scrutinized as to their practicality, effectiveness and economic feasibility. Some of the most effective methods appear to be utilizing natural and man-made wetlands as part of an overall agricultural management scheme. This approach combined with vegetated buffer zones, source reduction and best management practices are some of the methods reviewed for control of non-point source pollution.
