Effect of Ethephon and Pix Growth Regulators on Yield and Maturity of Upland Cotton

Orly Garcia and N.R. Malm

ABSTRACT

Ethephon and Pix growth regulators were used in all combinations to attempt to facilitate once-over spindle pick harvesting. High rates of ethephon used when only 25% of the bolls were open reduced micronaire and slightly reduced yield in two cases. Ethephon applied when 74% of the bolls were open reduced micronaire only for the sixth harvest and resulted in as much increased yield as 14%. There were no significant effects on fiber length or strength. Pix applied alone increased yield 10%. Some interactions occurred for combinations of ethephon and Pix.
