ABSTRACT

Field plots were established near Lone Star, South Carolina on a producer's farm to determine the effects of dual in-furrow application of Temik 15G and Ridomil PC 11G on nematode and seedling disease control. All possible combinations of 0 and 7 lbs/A of Temik 15G and Ridomil PC 11G were superimposed upon two seeding rates of Deltapine 5690 cotton for a total of eight treatments. Production practices were standard for the area. Seeding rates of approximately 3.3 and 1.7 seedlings per foot of row were established. The incidence of seedling diseases were very low with less than 0.10 diseased seedlings per foot of row for any treatment. Therefore neither seeding rate or application of Temik 15G or Ridomil PC 11G affected stand at 3 or 6 weeks after planting, Enviromental conditions were very favorable for high yields. Lint yields were 1,203 lb/A for the high seeding rate and 1,083 for the low seeding rate, however, this difference was not statistically significant (P=0.05). No visual symptoms of phytotoxicity were observed for any treatment. Mean lint yields were 1,147 lb/A treated with Ridomil PC 11G and 1,141 lb/A nontreated. Root-knot and Columbia lance nematode levels were relatively low with at-planting counts of 15 (range 0 to 184) Columbia lance and 6 range (O to 104) root-knot nematodes per 100 cm3 of soil. Galling indices at harvest were less than 0.5 (on a scale of 0 to 5) for all treatments. Thrips damage was severe on all plots not treated with Temik 15G. Application of Temik 15G significantly increased yields from 1,005 lb/A to 1,283 lb/A over all seeding rates and Ridomil PC 11G rates. This increase was probably due more to early season thrips control than nematode control. There was a significant Temik 15G X Ridomil PC 11G interaction with Temik 15G treatment increasing mean lint yields from 839 to 1,443 lb/A where Ridomil PC 11G was not applied and Temik 15G decreasing yields from 1,171 to 1,122 lb/A where Ridomil PC 11G was also applied.
