In 1989 John Deere introduced the 9960 variable-row cotton picker, the first production picker capable of harvesting five 30-inch rows. November 2, 1992 Deere introduced the 9965 variable-row cotton picker with five-row-wide capability. The 9965 is the first picker in the industry to harvest five 34-, 36-, 38-, or 40-inch rows in one pass. This option provides customers with up to a 25 percent productivity increase. The 9965 equipped with in-line picking units provides the flexibility to pick up to 18 different row configurations, ranging from five 30-inch rows to five 40-inch rows and most skip-row patterns. The 9965 is also available with four conventional picking units for working in 38- or 40-inch row spacings and skip rows. Besides added row spacing options, the new 9965 also features simpler row spacing conversions, new noncontaminating doffers and moistener pads, a larger capacity water tank, new electro-hydraulic controls, improved operation of the basket and metered unloading conveyor, and serviceability improvements. An optional, factory-installed rear-wheel-drive axle provides added traction for muddy conditions. |
