Distribution of Cotton Nematodes in Mississippi

S.C. Bost

ABSTRACT

The use of nematode advisory services for determining nematode distributions is less costly and encom-passes more production fields than do formal surveyor. The incidence and density of cotton nematode pests are evaluated annually in Mississippi by a computer analysis of the population data determined by the Extension Plant Pathology Department. Rotylenchulus reniformis and Meloidogyne incognita were recovered from 3.7 percent and 2.2 percent of the cotton samples received in 1982 and 1983. M incognita was more common in the Delta region than in the Loess Belt or Upper Coastal Plain, whereas R. reniformis was more common in the Loess Belt, or upper Coastal Plain, whereas R. reniformis was more common in the Loess Belt.
