Effect of Blends of Low and High Tenacity Fibers on Properties of Cotton Yarns

ABSTRACT

The tensile properties of intimate and draw-frame blended yarns made from 50:50 blend of Pima and Upland cotton is predominantly influenced by the properties of the constituent fibers. The intimate blended yarn has higher tensile strength than the draw-frame blended yarn studied here, perhaps attributed to better blend homogeneity. However, complete mechanism of such blended yarn failure under axial tension is not yet fully established since further work elucidating yarn structure in terms of longitudinal migration and fiber distribution in the yarn cross-section is under progress.
