Water Stress Effects on Cotton Lint Yield Using Infrared Thermometry to Schedule Irrigations

Stephen H. Husman and Donald J. Garrot, Jr.

ABSTRACT

The Crop Water Stress Index (CWSI) was used to schedule irrigation on D&PL 90 cotton in 1990 and Pima S-6 in 1991. The experiments were conducted on a large scale commercial basis in Waddell, Arizona. Both experiments consisted of sixteen one acre surface irrigated plots. There were four irrigation treatments with four replicates arranged in a randomized complete block design. In both experiments highest lint yields were obtained with the medium treatment with a targeted CWSI threshold of 0.30 CWSI units.
