Estimation of Single Fiber Tensile Properties from HVI Bundle Tests - A Progress Report

Moon W. Suh, Xiaoliang Cui, and Preston E. Sasser

ABSTRACT

Models have been developed and verified for estimating single fiber tensile properties (mean, variance, CV% of breaking elongation, and mean breaking strength) directly from HVI bundle load-elongation diagrams by comparing the estimated values against the actual values obtained from an AFIS® single fiber tensile tester. While the estimation is quite feasible with the existing equipment, the study has shown that the precision and accuracy can be further enhanced by improving the quality of HVI fiber bundles.
