ABSTRACT

Cotton root-knot nematodes and reniform nematodes were found to be the predominate nematode species in Alabama according to a statewide survey conducted in 1990 and 1991. Reniform nematodes were found predominately in central and south Alabama. Seventeen percent of the cotton fields sampled in central Alabama (Upper Coastal Plain region) and 8% of the fields in south Alabama (Lower Coastal Plain region) contained damaging levels of reniform nematode. Only 2% of the fields in north Alabama (Limestone Valley) contained damaging levels of reniform nematode. Cotton root-knot nematode was found concentrated in south Alabama and to a lesser extent in central Alabama.
