Preston E. Sasser

ABSTRACT

The 1991-1992 U.S. upland cotton crop will set several new bench marks for quality. An overall summary of the quality for the national crop shows the average length to be 1.11 inches (a record high), the length uniformity index to be 81.5 (a record high), the strength to be 27.6 g/tex (a record high), and the micronaire to be 4.1 mic units. Forty-seven (47) percent of the crop classed middling (code 31) or better. Overall, 85% of the bales in the crop were classed into the white grades.
