Dimilin under a New Marketing Program

F.G. Trammell

ABSTRACT

DIMILIN, a registered trademark of Duphar B.V., Amsterdam, Holland, brought forth a new era in insecticide chemistry. Its chitin inhibiting properties make it selective and relatively safe for human use. This is quite the opposite of many chemicals that we have used in the past, and some that are still in use today.

DIMILIN is the tradename of the chitin inhibiting compound, diflubenzuron. It was marketed first in the United States by Thompson-Hayward Chemical Company in 1979 for boll weevil control in cotton. Today, I am pleased to announce that Uniroyal Chemical, having purchased Thompson-Hayward Agriculture & Nutrition Company, will be actively marketing DIMILIN in 1983. For the past several years, DIMILIN has shown its effectiveness as an insecticide for boll weevil control as well as many other pests having chitin in their exoskeleton.
