Pay-Off: Performance of this New Pyrethroid in Cotton During 1982

William C. Jany

ABSTRACT

PAY-OFF, a second generation synthetic pyrethroid received a federal registration in cotton in 1982. In a series of extension and private consultant demonstrations, PAY-OFF provided excellent insect control in these demonstrations, generally providing equal to or better than, control of Heliothis spp., boll weevils and other cotton insect posts. Yield data from these demonstrations also illustrated the efficacy of this new insecticide for cotton insect control. PAY-OFF used in a variable rate schedule where application rates were matched to insect pressures, allowed farmers to reduce costs while maintaining satisfactory yields.
