Coupled Lint Cleaning: Solution to Minimizing Fiber Damage

ABSTRACT

A series of tests were performed comparing a prototype coupled lint cleaner to a pair of conventional saw-type lint cleaners. The tests were performed in a commercial qin plant. The coupled lint cleaner had a significantly higher turnout, longer length properties, fewer short fibers, and better uniformity than conventionally cleaned fiber. Yarn properties of both carded and combed 22 and 36 count yarns made from both the experimentally and conventionally cleaned fiber were essentially not significantly different in properties. Further work still needs to be done on documenting performance and fiber effects of the commercial prototype.
