Cotton Varietal Susceptibility to Whitefly Infestation under Low Desert Conditions

E.T. Natwick, C.C. Chu, and W. Laimgruber

ABSTRACT

Varieties of upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) and Pima cotton (Gossypium barbadense L.) were evaluated for susceptibility to colonization by the sweet potato whitefly (Benisia tabaci Genn.) Data from two experiments indicated that Pima cottons are more susceptible to colonization by sweet potato whitefly than upland varieties. There were only slight differences in susceptibility to the sweet potato whitefly colonization among Pima cottons and among upland cottons.
