ABSTRACT
Collections were made during 1990 from cotton in Mississippi and Louisiana to document cotton aphid, Aphis gossypii Glover, density, distribution of aphids within the plant canopy, presence of other aphid species, and presence of sexual morphs of the cotton aphid. Cotton aphid numbers increased dramatically at first bloom, regardless of early season insecticide treatments. Distribution of aphids at positions within the canopy differed significantly (P<0.05), but patterns of distribution were not consistent among fields and locations. Several aphid species other than the cotton aphid were collected in cotton, particularly during early season. Low frequencies of oviparae (sexual morph) of the cotton aphid were collected in both Mississippi and Louisiana cotton during late November.
