ABSTRACT
Boll weevil eradication programs in the United States are cooperative programs between cotton producers, state governments, and the federal government. The programs are conducted under state regulatory authority with the federal government providing 30% and the growers and states providing 70% of program funds. State regulatory authority, a representative producer organization, and passage of a grower referenda providing for mandatory grower participation and assessments are necessary before federal support can be obtained. In order to allow tine for the federal budget process and adequate program planning, such activities need to be completed 12 to 18 months before eradication activities are to start.
