The boll weevil eradication program has been highly successful in the southeastern and western United States and a containment program has protected areas in the High Plains of Texas. Potential areas and timetables for expanding the eradication effort are variable depending upon several interconnecting factors. These factors include legal constraints, geographic distribution of the boll weevil, current proximity to weevil-free zones, funding, economic feasibility, and grower acceptance. |
