Progress in the United States Boll Weevil Eradication Programs

Sidney E. Cousins

ABSTRACT

The Boll weevil Eradication Program is a cooperative activity in which the growers provide 70% of the funding and the USDA, APHIS provides 30%. After successful early trials, full scale eradication programs were implemented and completed in North Carolina, part of South Carolina, northwest Mexico, California, and western Arizona. Cooperative eradication programs are presently being conducted in South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, southern Alabama, and central Arizona. The expanded eradication program is now being conducted on approximately 850,000 acres of cotton.
