The "Prep" Problem in Extra Long Staple (Pima) Cotton

D.W. Van Doorn

ABSTRACT

The 1989-90 ginning season has produced a high percentage of Pima bales down-graded because of poor preparation. The causes of "preppy" cotton appear to originate in the fields; however, there are a number of points in the roller ginning process that should be checked to prevent further aggravating the conditions that lead to poor preparation. These points are discussed.
