Louisiana's Mandatory Safety Program

Lee Todd

ABSTRACT

Formulating a comprehensive safety program for gins in Louisiana became a necessity when a state law began to be enforced for gins in that state two years ago. The law required a state-approved safety program be submitted whenever a workers comp claim was submitted.

The safety program devised consists of the safety lesson plans used for many years by the Southern Ginners Association and nine component points required by the state. This comprehensive program was approved by the state and is being used successfully by a self-insured group of gins in Louisiana to maintain a low incidence of workers comp claims.
