Evaluation of Aldicarb and Ethephon in Cotton Production

William P. Scott

ABSTRACT

Cotton grown near Indianola, Mississippi received aldicarb (temik) at planting and dimethoate after plant emergence to control early-season pest from 1987 -1989. Control of populations of thrips Frankiniella spp. and populations of tarnished plant bugs Lygus lineolaris resulted in yield increases all years. At maturity foliar applications of ethephon (prep) and tribuphos (Folex) were applied to the cotton after 60% open bolls. During all years aldicarb treated cotton had higher yields than cotton treated with dimethoate and the use of Prep increased the yield of seed cotton in the first harvest.
