Cotton Production in China

Fred E.M. Gillham

ABSTRACT

During the past decade, cotton production in the Peoples' Republic of China has almost trebled, making the country by far the largest producer in the world. With their vast population and enormous production potential, China has become the major force in international cotton textile trade. Reliable information on production practices and supporting research is not readily available. This paper discusses these aspects of the Chinese cotton program.
