Extra Long Staple Acala Cotton Breeding, Growing and Processing.

Gad Fishler and Yshai Doron

ABSTRACT

Extra Long Acala cotton was suggested to supply the demand for a cotton which is better than acala while less expensive than Extra Long Staple Gossypium babadense. Experimental strains outyielded Acala SJ2, the fibers were long, fine and strong, but the amount of neps, presumably due to trash particles, was too great for commercial use. Eden Long Acala program (ELA) is working to solve this problem and develop commercial varieties.
