Development and Use of Dyeing Techniques to Evaluate Potential for Dyeing Problems in Raw Cotton

Michael D. Watson and Frank L. Carter

ABSTRACT

Current test methods used to evaluate cotton fiber samples do not effectively predict the white specking potential of the cotton. Changes in the types of fabrics being produced and the movement toward darker and brighter shades in apparel fabrics have made white specks on fabric surfaces an important problem for textile manufacturers and apparel producers. A summary of current research into the nature of the problem is presented. An outline of developments in establishing a test procedure to predict white specking potential is included.
