Measurement of Cottonseed-Fragment Contamination

J.D. Bargeron and T.H. Garner

ABSTRACT

Cottonseed-fragment contamination can cause the production of second quality fabric. There are several characteristics of the cottonseed that are related to seed-coat-fragment imperfections in fabric. However,73% of the variation in seed-coat-fragment imperfections in this study could be explained by the seed diameter coefficient of variability. Cottonseed less than 4.0 mm in diameter appear to be the principal source of seedcoat-fragment contamination.
