Financial Characteristics of U.S. Cotton Farms, 1987 Versus 1986

Duane Hacklander and David Banker

ABSTRACT

Net farm income increased to a record high in 1987 for the second year in a row. Asset values rose for the first time since 1981, while farm debt continued to decline. An overview of how cotton farms fared in this general recovery relative to 1986 is presented by region, sales class, and debt-to-asset ratio.
