The Effect of Variety on Thrips Control

D.R. Johnson, J.J. Kimbrough, and J.S. McConnell

ABSTRACT

Thrips control using in-furrow treatments of Di-Syston and Temik increased cotton yields by 21%, Orthene Seed Treatment 11%, and foliar sprays 11% on irrigated cotton. On dryland cotton, yields were similar with increases of 16% using Di-Syston and Temik, 11% using orthene Seed Treatment, and 8% for foliar sprays. When using different varieties, the earlier faster fruiting varieties appeared to recover quicker from thrips damage resulting in higher yields.
