Influence of Pinhead Square Malathion Treatments Applied by Boll Weevil Eradication Program on Cotton Field Pests in AZ.

Joseph E. Leggett

ABSTRACT

Some of the fields treated with ULV malathion in Central Arizona had more beet armyworm, Spodoptera exiqua-damaged squares than untreated fields, but more than 60 % of the fields had damage levels that were < to the untreated fields. Boll weevils were detected by square sampling before traps indicated their presence in some fields and this phenomenon ranged from 0 to 42 % in the 3 areas sampled. The population ranged from 0.2 to 0.4 boll weevils per trap from July 8 to Aug. 6. Whitefly populations were similar in treated and untreated fields with significant differences occurring only on one date.
