Evaluation of Mepiquat Chloride Low-Rate Multiple Applications

David S. Guthrie

ABSTRACT

An experiment was conducted at nine North Carolina locations during 1988 to compare low rate multiple applications (LRMA) of mepiquat chloride (MC)(N,N dimethylpiperidinum chloride) to early bloom (EB) treatments. The MC treatments evaluated were 1/8 pt/A LRMA, 1/4 pt/A LRMA, 112 pt/A EB, and 1 pt/A EB. An untreated check was included at all locations. Analysis of variance procedures indicated that MC treatment increased yield over the check (945 vs. 901 lbs/A). No significant difference in treatment options were observed in yield. Plant heights and internode lengths, decreased and percent open bolls increased (P=0.05) with MC treatment. The results indicate the LRMA option was not superior to EB treatment.
