ABSTRACT

Three of the new second generation pyrethroid insecticides were tested in large scale off station tests near the Northeast Experiment Station, St. Joseph, LA. Payoff (American Cyanamid) Cymbush (ICT) and HAG-107 (American Hoechst) were evaluated in these trials on 100 acres, 100 acres and 40 acres respectively. The insecticides were applied on an "as needed" basis to maintain boll worm infestations below the economic threshold of 5% square damage. Cythion, a special formulation of malathion for application in oil, was used when necessary to supplement boll weevil control. All applications were made using a spray volume of 1 qt/acre with cottonseed oil as the carrier solution.
