What Is Byssinosis? What Research Remains to Be Done?

Meryl H. Karol

ABSTRACT

My entrance into the field of byssinosis research was in 1983 when it was requested that I consider development of an animal model for the disease. I would therefore be considered a relative newcomer to the field. As such, my perspective tends to focus on the considerable progress that has been made during these years in elucidation of both the etiologic agents responsible for the syndrome and of the mechanisms involved.
