ABSTRACT
Preliminary experiments directed towards a practical, economical treatment to detoxify bacterial endotoxins on cotton lint are described. Effects of ammonia and gaseous aliphatic amines an endotoxins (LAL value) were measured using a flow-through system at ambient temperature had little effect on LAL values, while the volatile amines increased the values. At 100 C, air, ammonia, and all the amines decreased the LAL values. Effects of temperatures from ambient to 150 C on air and ammonia treatments were measured. Possible causes of the effects are discussed.
