Preparation of Chemically Treated Tannin-Coated Cellulose Powder

M.A. Rousselle and L.N. Domelsmith

ABSTRACT

Condensed tannin was extracted from cotton dust DB 1/88, and coated onto cellulose powder. The tannincoated cellulose powder was treated with a solvent system previously shown to reduce endotoxin content and pulmonary toxicity of cotton dust. Details of the preparation and treatment of the powder, the tannin and endotoxin contents of the dust before and after extraction, and the tannin and endotoxin contents of the tannin-coated powder before and after treatment are reported here.
