Airborne Bacterial Levels of Card Generated Dust from Cottons Grown in Different Locations and Seasons

David T.W. Chun

ABSTRACT

Cotton from an ongoing area and seasonal bacterial profile study were evaluated for their potential of liberating bacterial laden dust during carding. Cottons harvested in 1986 and 1987 from locations in California, Texas, and Mississippi were processed in bale-size lots. The levels of dust and airborne bacteria varied dramatically between locations and within the two growing seasons for the same location. Sugar harvested periodically during the 1986 season varied considerably between locations.
