Holland Cottonseed announces the release of two new, short season stripper cotton varieties: Holland 1379 and Holland 4002. Holland 1379 is a very early maturing, determinant variety with good yield potential. Holland 1379 is a multi-adversity resistant (MAR) variety having cold tolerance and the ability to produce uniform stands under adverse conditions. The variety is highly resistant to all known U.S. races of the bacterial blight pathogen. Holland 1379 is moderately resistant to root-knot nematodes, but is susceptible to verticillium wilt. The following fiber properties are from Holland Cottonseed in-house tests in South and West Texas over a four year period. These are: lint percent (pulled) - 26%; lint percent (picked) - 38%; micronaire - 4.5; strength (g/tex) 24; length - 1.04; uniformity - 82. Holland 1379 has performed well in commercial production fields in the South, Central, and Rolling Plains regions of Texas. Holland 4002 is an early maturing cotton variety with good yield potential. This new variety is an excellent dryland variety. Holland 4002 is less determinant than most stripper varieties. This trait, coupled with a robust root system, allows Holland 4002 to hold fruit during drought conditions and recover when moisture is available. Holland 4002 is a MAR bred variety with good seedling vigor and standibilily under adverse conditions. The variety is highly resistant to all known U.S. races of the bacterial blight pathogen. Holland 4002 is moderately resistant to root knot nematodes and verticillium wilt. Fiber properties are: lint percent (picked) - 39%; limit percent (pulled) - 29%; micronaire - 3.8; strength (g/tex) - 25; length - 1.07; and uniformity - 84. Holland 4002 has performed well in commercial production fields ill the Rolling Plains, and South Plains regions of Texas and in Oklahoma. |
