Insect Control for Earliness: Strategy and Basis

Mitchell E. Roof

ABSTRACT

There has been a great deal of emphasis placed on earliness in cotton production during recent years. No one can deny the importance of an early crop. In certain situations, control of early season insects has paid dividends for cotton producers. But there are also situations where early season insect control does not pay off. For example, in South Carolina, producers have been plagued with two consecutive years of drought. Under such adverse conditions, earliness is often detrimental.
