Educational Activities and Research Support for a Cotton Planting Seed Quality Program

C.C. Baskin

ABSTRACT

Research at Mississippi State is on-going to improve methods of evaluating cotton seed quality, to correlate laboratory performance with field emergence and stand establishment, to select and eventually incorporate into lins and/or cultivars resistance to field weathering and mechanical damage. Studies to determine he effects of temperature and soil moisture content germination and emergence of cottseed of defferent quality levels is underway. Learning how to use seed quality information is important in planning cotton crop production. Deucation materials have been prepared by some extension specialists. Efforts are underway to prepare a comprehensive brochure on using seed quality, information.
