Cotton Trash Separation and Measurement for Market Quality Classification

Robert A. Taylor

ABSTRACT

A new, high-speed, automated instrument for the measurement of trash, dust and foreign matter in lint cotton is described. The instrument employs a physical separation of trash from lint cotton and an aerodynamic classification according to particle size. Electro-optical methods are used to count and size the particles. Feasibility of using the new instrument for trash grade classification and for pre-blending HVI cotton samples to reduce sampling variability is described.
