Development of a Scanning Type Cotton Trashmeter Using Solid State Technology

Robert A. Taylor

ABSTRACT

A new scanning type trashmeter has been designed and built by Spinlab, Inc. of Knoxville, Tennessee. The new instrument employs a conventional black and white TV camera and a modern microprocessor to analyze the TV signal. The paper discusses the precision and accuracy expected when using the new instrument for leaf trash grading of cotton. Also discussed are the instrument's operating restrictions and its compatibility with the High Volume Instrument cotton classing system.
