Newly Designed Boll Weevil Scout Trap

D.E. Forey and A.R. Quisumbing

ABSTRACT

Field trials were initiated in the summer of 1986 comparing Hercon Boll Weevil SCOUT Traps with two commercial designs (HARDEE and FOUNDATION boll weevil traps). "Hybrid-SCOUT" traps that integrated new construction methods and design were likewise compared. In separate tests, the Boll Weevil SCOUT Trap outcaptured the HARDEE and FOUNDATION traps. No statistical differences were observed between the Boll Weevil SCOUT Trap and a "Hybrid-SCOUT" trap containing a molded plastic FOUNDATION trap base. Spray-painted fluorescent Day-Glo Yellow Boll Weevil SCOUT Trap bases were more attractive than nonpainted (white) trap bases.
