Select, a New Postemergence Herbicide for Control of Grasses in Broadleaf Crops

R.T. Kincade

ABSTRACT

SELECT is a new selective postemergence grass herbicide under development by Chevron Chemical Company, Agricultural Chemicals Division. SELECT has shown to be effective against a wide range of annual grasses at the rate of 0.06 to 0.125 lb ai/A and perennial grasses at the rate of 0.125 - 0.25 lb ai/A. All broadleaf crops tested, including soybeans, cotton, peanuts, sugar beets, potatoes, alfalfa and most vegetable crops, have shown excellent crop tolerance. Preemergence activity for annual grass control has been observed from application rates of from 0.125 to 0.25 lb ai/A when applied preemerge or preplant incorporated to many broadleaf crops. Best results from SELECT applications have been obtained when grass species are actively growing and are less than 8 inches in height. An oil concentrate at 1.0 qt/A is recommended with all postemergence applications.
