Effect of Pain on the Microorganisms in Cotton

J.J. Fischer and P.E. Sasser

ABSTRACT

The 1984 crop was exposed to three weeks of rain in the midst of the harvesting time. This afforded a unique opportunity to study the influence of rain on the cotton in the field upon the microbial and endotoxin content of the harvested cottons. The microbiological data is correlated with the source (state of origin) and grade of the cottons. Pre- and post-rain specimens are included. Increases in gram-negative bacilli, corynebacteria, gram-positive bacteria, and fungi occurred. Selected fiber parameters will also be included.
