Grading Cotton Non-Lint Content with Television Images

Robert A. Taylor

ABSTRACT

Scanning type trashmeters are being developed to improve upon the visual method of grading cotton foreign matter content. These instruments use conventional TV cameras to rapidly scan the surface of cotton samples. Models being evaluated produce particle count and size information based on dark spots observed. Algorithms relate the count and size data to visible non-lint content. A method of calculating cotton grade with an integrated calorimeter trashmeter measurement is described.
